August 19th

Today we decide to drive to Maun a day earlier than planned. It works out well as the fuel in the Land Cruiser is getting low and we have decided to change our itinerary after Maun. As we will be arriving a day earlier in Maun we will spend a night there. It will allow us to drive to Gweta the next day instead of just stopping in Maun for our sightseeing flight and drive onward to Rakops were there is nothing to see.

During breakfast we see our “friend” the baboon from the other day. I take a big stick of wood and chase him away. A little later not, paying attention and thinking that baboon had gone away (to steal someone else breakfast), he comes out of nowhere and takes from the table a bread loaf and again, sits 20-30 meters away to eat it. I am now really annoyed, not to use another word, as I got caught twice.

We drive to Maun and get there early enough for us to try to move our sightseeing flight a day early. This is not possible, we can just move it from the next day in the afternoon to the morning. Not a big deal that still gives us time to get to the Rhino Sanctuary in Serowe before dark. While in a shop I meet by accident the wife of an ex-colleague from my Gaborone days. She tells me that our friends in Gaborone have been trying to locate us as there has been an airplane crash and the passengers were a Belgian family of 4. Now how many Belgian family would there be visiting Botswana at the same time? After having got in touch with our friends to reassure them that we were fine, we decide to invite her and her husband to have dinner with us that evening at the Okavango River Lodge where we are staying.

There again the water level is really high.

Again stories of past great times.
